Introducing our 1st Rhodes Scholar…

His Excellency Dr Ken Michael AC, Governor of Western Australia and Ms Jackie McArthur, recipient of the Rhodes Scholarship for Western Australia.

Warm congratulations to Jackie McArthur who was announced as the 2011 Rhodes Scholar for WA this afternoon by His Excellency Dr Ken Michaels AC, Governor of Western Australia.

Jackie was a member of the ATP and awarded the Gwen Brockman Memorial Prize for Humanities in 2003. She was a member of the Western Australian Schools Debating Team and won a General Exhibition for placing in the top 40 students for the TEE.

During her university career Jackie has won a plethora of awards topping most subjects she studied. She has completed 1st Class Honours in both Law and Political Science. In 2010 Jackie won the J.A. Wood Memorial Prize for being the most outstanding graduand at UWA.

Jackie undertakes a Masters at Oxford University starting in September 2011.

Jackie has been a great supporter to the Shenton community over the years, and has been a major contributor to our rich humanities program, particularly debating.

We wish Jackie all the best and hope that her success inspires all students to pursue excellence in all their endeavours.
